Synopsis: Set in Truvy's beauty salon in Chinquapin, Louisiana, where all the ladies who are "anybody" come to have their hair done. The outspoken, wise-cracking Truvy dispenses shampoos and free advice to the town's rich curmudgeon, an eccentric millionaire, and the local social leader. Ladies fill the shop with hilarious repartee and not a few acerbic but humorously revealing verbal collisions. The sudden realization of their own mortality affects them all, but also draws on the underlying strength-and love amongst the ladies.

Character Age


Truvy Jones 40-50 Owns the beauty shop. Vivacious. Dispenses advice with lots of hairspray.
Annelle Dupup-Desoto 20-30 Newly hired assistant to Truvy. Moves from unsure to wild to religious.
Clairee Belcher 55-70 Widow of former mayor. Grand dame. Elegant, sophisticated, a true beauty.
Shelby Eatenton-Latcherie 25-35 Prettiest girl in town. Strong willed and passionate.
M'Lynn Eatenton 45-55 Shelby's mother. Always knows what's best, strong, stubborn; the heart of the piece.
Ouiser ("Weezer") Boudreaux 55-70 Wealthy curmudgeon. Tough, eccentric character.


Special Notes for Auditioners:
Looking for strong, passionate actresses who also must be able to sustain a southern accent throughout the entire production. Readings will be from the script. All auditioners are to provide their theatrical resume and headshot.
